The Sydney Opera House is looking for someone to help build and test digital campaigns. At TAFE NSW, the work centres on campaigns that support enrolments, while the Independent Review Office needs an experienced communicator who can use feedback from injured people to improve its information. Each calls for a different kind of evidence, even though the titles sit within the same broad field.
This ongoing shortlist brings together current NSW Government marketing, communications and engagement jobs, with the day-to-day work and written application requirements explained for each role. Use it to compare campaign delivery, media relations, content production, stakeholder engagement and digital leadership opportunities. Start with the work you can demonstrate, then check the documents and evidence the application requires.

Choose the work that matches your experience
If you have helped a marketing team get campaigns out the door, compare the Digital Marketing Coordinator at the Opera House with the Marketing Coordinator at Destination NSW. The Opera House role emphasises hands-on platform work and learning, while Destination NSW expects experience coordinating campaign activity and approvals. TAFE NSW asks for a campaign example in just 300 words, which gives applicants with a clear, measurable contribution a focused writing task.
For a strong writer who works well with subject experts, the Communications Project Officer at DPIRD offers research stories and digital resources, with regional locations actively considered. Media professionals can look at DPHI’s Senior Media & Communications Advisor, where sensitive enquiries and on-call availability are part of the job. The Social Media Coordinator at Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network puts more weight on creating visual content and developing stories with clinicians and families.
The engagement jobs also differ in scope. DCCEEW’s Senior Engagement Advisor develops practices and tools that help teams engage consistently, whereas Hospitality and Racing’s Senior Engagement Officer leads events and engagement programs, including a small team. If your strongest work is improving websites and intranets, read the Digital Communications Manager role closely before treating it as another content-writing position.

Digital Marketing Coordinator
The Sydney Opera House needs someone who can help get digital campaigns ready for an audience: building emails, testing landing pages and supporting activity across paid and organic channels. You would work with its campaign, email and website teams, with room to develop your knowledge of digital platforms and analytics. This is the most accessible option in the list for someone building practical digital marketing experience, provided you can show careful writing, organisation and an interest in the work.
Application requirements
Cover letter; CV; Responses to two targeted questions.
What to highlight
Use an example of preparing or checking digital content and explain how you caught errors or improved the audience experience. The two targeted questions ask about your experience with marketing platforms and your interest in digital marketing at the Opera House.
Marketing Specialist
TAFE NSW’s campaigns support enrolments and build awareness of its training. The Marketing Specialist helps turn campaign plans into coordinated activity, working with different teams and keeping the intended result in view. It is a useful option for people with experience in a marketing team or agency who can explain their contribution to a measurable campaign. Location is negotiable across NSW campuses, subject to availability, so a preferred campus needs to be discussed rather than assumed.
Application requirements
Current resume; One targeted response, maximum 300 words.
What to highlight
Choose one campaign you supported through planning and execution. Make your own role clear, explain the objective and use a result you can substantiate. The 300-word limit makes a focused example especially valuable.
Marketing Coordinator
Destination NSW’s Marketing Strategy & Campaigns team promotes Sydney and NSW to local and interstate visitors. This coordinator keeps campaign schedules and approvals moving, prepares reports and helps manage creative assets across channels. The work will be familiar to someone who has supported a busy consumer-brand or tourism marketing team and understands the discipline involved in getting material approved and delivered on time.
Application requirements
Cover letter, maximum 1 page; Resume, maximum 5 pages.
What to highlight
Show how you coordinated a campaign when assets, approvals or deadlines competed for attention. A clear example of keeping delivery on track will give the one-page letter more substance than a long inventory of platforms.
Communications Project Officer
Research teams at Agriculture & Biosecurity need their work explained in ways people can use. This Communications Project Officer works with researchers and project teams on stories, digital resources and material that helps colleagues understand research initiatives. The mix includes newsletters and SharePoint content, with accessibility and accuracy running through the work. Regional applicants have a particular reason to look: the department will consider NSW locations and names Queanbeyan, Armidale, Dubbo and Coffs Harbour as areas of preference.
Application requirements
CV, maximum 4 pages; Cover letter, maximum 2 pages.
What to highlight
Bring an example of translating technical or specialist information for a defined audience. Explain how you worked with subject experts, checked accuracy and made the content accessible, then show what readers could understand or do as a result.
Senior Communications Project Officer
The Independent Review Office wants the experiences of injured people and scheme users to influence its communications. You would turn complaint themes, stakeholder feedback and engagement data into clearer information and projects that improve understanding of IRO services. This is a substantial communications role for someone comfortable with complex, sensitive material and with carrying a project through delivery and evaluation. Experience in regulatory or human services settings is particularly relevant.
Application requirements
Current resume; Cover letter, maximum 2 pages.
What to highlight
Describe a time that customer feedback changed your communication approach. Show how you interpreted the evidence, involved the right people and assessed whether the revised information worked. Check the unusual 9:59 am closing time.
Senior Engagement Advisor
DCCEEW is looking for someone who can improve how engagement happens across a large department. The Senior Engagement Advisor develops frameworks and practical tools, supports engagement networks and helps teams apply consistent approaches to complex programs. Applicants with business-improvement experience can see a clear connection here if they have also designed and delivered stakeholder-engagement strategies. A current NSW driver licence and willingness to travel are required.
Application requirements
Resume; Cover letter.
What to highlight
Use a project where teams adopted an engagement process or tool you helped develop. Explain the problem it addressed, how you brought people into the change and what improved in the way engagement was planned or delivered.
Senior Engagement Officer
Industry events and roadshows are a central part of this Hospitality and Racing role. You would lead engagement activity, manage the practical delivery of forums and webinars, and guide a small team while working with industry, community and government stakeholders. The responsibility includes budgets and event risks as well as the communication that encourages people to take part. Experienced events professionals should look closely at the level of ownership expected.
Application requirements
Cover letter, maximum 1 page; Resume, maximum 5 pages.
What to highlight
Choose an event or engagement program you led and explain the decisions behind the delivery. Include how you handled a meaningful risk or competing stakeholder need, and what the evaluation showed. Keep the cover letter within one page.
Senior Media & Communications Advisor
The stories behind NSW’s places and projects come with public interest and sensitive questions. DPHI’s Senior Media & Communications Advisor develops proactive stories, handles high-profile enquiries and helps colleagues respond to emerging issues. It is a good role to examine if your experience includes media relations or public affairs and you can show sound judgement under time pressure. Availability for on-call work outside normal hours is an essential condition.
Application requirements
CV; Cover letter.
What to highlight
Explain a media or issues-management decision, including how you established the facts, assessed the risk and secured advice or approval. Show the effect of your response while respecting any confidential information in the example.
Social Media Coordinator
At Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network, the social content involves clinicians and families as well as health services. The Social Media Coordinator plans and creates posts, using photography and video to make paediatric health stories accessible across Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn. You would also monitor activity and use analytics to refine the content. This is a hands-on creative role with a substantial written application: the eight selection responses deserve time alongside the resume.
Application requirements
Resume, maximum 5 pages; Written responses to all eight listed selection prompts.
What to highlight
Select examples that demonstrate your writing and visual production work, with a clear audience and purpose. Be ready to explain how you developed a story with other people and used performance information to improve the content.
Digital Communications Manager
Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network’s website and intranet need to work for their users and the people who maintain them. The Digital Communications Manager leads their strategic development and ongoing improvement, working with content owners, digital agencies and Digital Health colleagues. This role calls for established experience with web publishing and content systems, alongside the ability to negotiate improvements across complex stakeholder relationships. Its focus is the quality and usability of the digital service.
Application requirements
Resume, maximum 5 pages; Written responses to all seven listed selection prompts.
What to highlight
Use a website or intranet improvement to explain how you investigated user needs, worked through content ownership and changed the experience. Include your own technical and communication decisions, with evidence of what improved.
Compare related government job shortlists
If your experience centres on supporting people with enquiries and service requests, explore the current NSW Government customer service jobs. Use the duties and application requirements to judge which type of work gives you the clearest evidence of fit.
Turn campaign duties into an example the panel can assess
“I supported marketing campaigns” gives a panel very little to assess. An example becomes useful when you explain the objective and what you personally did to help reach it. For a campaign-coordination application, you might describe how a delayed creative approval threatened the launch, how you reorganised the remaining work with the agency and what happened by the revised deadline. Use an outcome you can verify; a delivery result can be useful even when you do not have access to revenue or conversion data.
Choose the detail according to the role. For Destination NSW, show the coordination and approval work that kept delivery moving. TAFE NSW’s targeted response needs your contribution across planning and execution, compressed into 300 words. For IRO, explain how feedback changed the communication decisions you made. If you are applying for the SCHN social role, allow enough time to answer each of its eight selection prompts with relevant evidence.
Check the application effort before you commit
Put the exact deadline in your calendar before drafting. The IRO role closes at 9:59 am on 16 September; Destination NSW and Hospitality and Racing close at 10:00 am on 18 September. For the two SCHN roles, the advertised deadline is midnight on 20 September. Preparing ahead of the closing day gives you time to check attachments and complete the written responses.
