The current Grade 9/10 shortlist covers work with visible organisational risk. It includes data migration, prosecutions, records governance, cyber response, investigations, finance, regional coordination and animal-biosecurity communication.
Choose a role where you can show both specialist depth and influence. The Senior Data Analyst needs detailed migration evidence, while the records manager and investigator roles depend on governance and defensible decisions. Cyber response adds an on-call requirement, and the regional roles need judgement across agencies and communities.
All eight roles were open when checked on 31 August 2026 and close between 7 and 13 September. Several deadlines arrive quickly, so confirm the application format before investing time in a long draft.

What the Grade 9/10 market tells applicants
Grade 9/10 was the largest salary-equivalent group in the expanded comparison, with 2,798 advertisements matching at reasonable confidence. Medical trainee and professional Health roles contributed heavily to that number, which shows why a similar salary can sit beside very different qualifications and career paths.
Outside Health and Education, 675 roles sat in the broader Grade 9/10 salary range. Senior Project Officer, Senior Policy Officer, Senior Business Analyst, Senior Legal Officer and Senior Data Analyst were common titles, with Communities and Justice and Customer Service leading the agency mix.
More than 70 per cent of these other-agency roles were based in Greater Sydney, while about one in ten used a statewide or multi-location label. Applicants seeking regional work will usually get better results by combining the grade or salary with a location and specialist function.
Match specialist depth with the level of influence
Senior Data Analyst, Senior Lawyer and Senior Management Accountant require deep professional or technical credibility. Their applications should show the quality of the applicant’s analysis and how it changed a legal, financial or technology outcome. Manager Records and Information and Senior Investigator sit closer to governance, procedural fairness and organisational assurance.
Senior Coordinator Cyber Response combines technical incident work with operational leadership and an on-call roster. The Senior Regional Coordination Officer works across agencies and senior government stakeholders, while the biosecurity communications role needs clear public information and trusted advice during issues that can affect industry and regional communities.
Use an example with consequence and organisational reach
A Grade 9/10 example should show a complex issue, the authority or expertise you brought, and the consequence of the decision. Explain the legislation, data, control, financial rule or stakeholder interest that made the work difficult. Then show how your recommendation was tested and implemented.
For instance, a governance example becomes stronger when it names the compliance gap, the risk it created, the people who needed to change their practice and the evidence that the new approach worked. A technical example should connect the design or analysis to service reliability, decision quality, risk reduction or a measurable delivery result.
