Three current NSW Government Business Analyst jobs are worth comparing this week. The shortlist covers data-focused Transport work, a senior NSW Health role and a NSW SES role available in Wollongong or Rhodes.
The titles are similar, but the work is not. Some panels need process discovery and stakeholder evidence. Others want SQL, Power BI, APIs, data models or business-case development. Start with the role that matches the strongest work you can prove, then use the application checklist before you begin writing.
What NSW Government BA panels need to see
A list of BA methods is not enough. Show the business problem, what you did to understand it, the artefacts you produced, how you tested assumptions and what changed because of your analysis.
Choose examples that match the role. A service-improvement example may suit SafeWork NSW. The junior Health role calls for evidence across requirements, data, documentation and delivery. Technical Transport roles need evidence that you can work across systems, integrations and delivery risk.
Turn your evidence into a clear example
Instead of writing that you “gathered requirements”, explain the situation. For example: a service team was losing time because three groups used different definitions. You mapped the current process, tested the assumptions with users, agreed acceptance criteria and helped reduce rework after release.
The panel can then see your judgement, stakeholder approach, analysis and result. Use the same discipline in your resume, cover letter and any targeted responses.
