Education is the standout movement in this week’s NSW Government jobs data, but the useful story is not simply that there are more roles. The useful story is where the work is appearing. Teaching roles, deputy principal roles and school support roles are all open at the same time, and each group asks for a different kind of application evidence.
Education agency roles rose from 90 in the previous week to 231 this week, and teaching-family roles rose from 62 to 107. That is a large enough shift to treat education as its own shortlist rather than burying these jobs inside a general weekly list. If you have education, training, student support, facilities or school leadership experience, this is a week worth checking properly.
The important point is choice. A teacher application, a deputy principal selection-criteria response and a school support cover letter should not sound the same. Use the groupings below to decide which roles fit your evidence before you spend time writing.

In This Guide
Why this shortlist is grouped: education hiring is moving across several job types at once, so the best way to use this page is to compare the evidence task, not only the job title.
Teaching Roles
Start here if your strongest evidence is teaching, training, learner support or subject expertise. These roles ask for more than a generic education background: the application needs to show how you teach, support learners and communicate in the specific education setting.
Deputy Principal And School Leadership Roles
This is the clearest cluster in the shortlist. Four deputy principal roles are open at the same time, and each one needs leadership evidence rather than a broad career summary. Applicants should choose examples that show school improvement, staff leadership, inclusion, wellbeing and decision making under real school conditions.
- Deputy Principal – Coffs Harbour High School
- Deputy Principal – Warilla High School
- Deputy Principal Inclusion and Support – Kincumber High School
- Deputy Principal Secondary – Intensive English Centre – Evans High School
School Support And Operations Roles
These roles are practical, but the applications still need careful evidence. School support and operations panels are looking for safe work habits, reliability, student focus and the ability to solve problems without drama. Use examples from maintenance, facilities, learning support, farm operations or customer-facing school work.
How To Use This Shortlist
Start with the group that matches your strongest proof. If your best evidence is classroom delivery or training, look at the teaching roles. If your strongest examples are school improvement, staff leadership or student wellbeing, the deputy principal roles need closer attention. If your evidence is practical school operations, student support, facilities or safe hands-on work, the support roles are the better fit.
Then check the written task. Some roles rely on a CV and online targeted question, some ask for selection criteria, and some need a cover letter with targeted questions built into it. That difference matters because it changes where your strongest example should go.
Teaching Roles
Start here if your strongest evidence is teaching, training, learner support or subject expertise. These roles ask for more than a generic education background: the application needs to show how you teach, support learners and communicate in the specific education setting.
Teacher of English and Humanities
This role is a good fit for applicants who can show subject knowledge and practical learner support. The written application needs to prove that you can teach English and Humanities while working with students who may need different communication strategies, including early school leavers. The targeted question is doing real assessment work here, so use a specific classroom or learner-support example rather than a broad statement about teaching style.
Application requirements
CV; targeted question in the online form.
What to highlight
Communication strategies with diverse students, classroom delivery, learner engagement, subject knowledge and student support in a TAFE setting.
Teacher of Community Services / Counselling
This role sits in a more specialised teaching lane. Your application should connect community services or counselling industry knowledge with the practical work of training, assessment and learner support. The panel will want to see that you can bring current sector experience into a classroom environment and keep the teaching grounded in real professional practice.
Application requirements
CV; targeted question in the online form.
What to highlight
Vocational teaching, community services or counselling practice, learner support, assessment judgement and professional boundaries.
Deputy Principal – Coffs Harbour High School
This leadership application needs to show credible school improvement work, staff leadership and sound judgement in a secondary school setting. The role will suit applicants who can point to practical examples of lifting teaching practice, working with families and leading through complex student or staff matters. Keep the response evidence-led: what you changed, who you brought with you and what improved.
Application requirements
Individual responses to selection criteria.
What to highlight
Instructional leadership, school improvement, staff leadership, community engagement and values-led decision making.
Deputy Principal – Warilla High School
This role needs examples that show practical leadership in teaching, learning and student wellbeing. A useful application will explain how you lead staff, make decisions under pressure and keep students at the centre of school operations. Use examples that show both judgement and follow-through, especially where you had to work with staff, students, parents or community partners.
Application requirements
Individual responses to selection criteria.
What to highlight
Teaching and learning leadership, wellbeing, staff support, behaviour or operational decisions and community trust.
Deputy Principal Inclusion and Support – Kincumber High School
This is the most inclusion-focused leadership role in the group. Your application should centre on support planning, adjustments, student wellbeing and the leadership work needed to help diverse students participate safely and meaningfully. Strong examples will show how you worked with staff, families and external supports while keeping decisions clear and defensible.
Application requirements
Individual responses to selection criteria.
What to highlight
Inclusive education, support planning, student wellbeing, family and agency engagement and balanced decision making.
Deputy Principal Secondary – Intensive English Centre – Evans High School
This role has a distinct leadership context because it connects secondary schooling with intensive English learning. The application should show that you understand transition, inclusion, language development and the practical support newly arrived or English-language learners need. Use examples that show you can lead learning while working with diverse families and school communities.
Application requirements
Individual responses to selection criteria.
What to highlight
Secondary leadership, intensive English learning, transition support, inclusion, wellbeing and communication with diverse families.
School Support And Operations Roles
These roles are practical, but the applications still need careful evidence. School support and operations panels are looking for safe work habits, reliability, student focus and the ability to solve problems without drama. Use examples from maintenance, facilities, learning support, farm operations or customer-facing school work.
General Assistant – Full Time – Clemton Park Public School
This is a practical school operations role, so the application needs to show reliability, safe work habits and sensible prioritisation. The cover letter should make it easy to see the kinds of maintenance, grounds, facilities or hands-on tasks you have managed. Stronger examples will show how you noticed a problem, decided what mattered first and followed through without creating extra work for the school.
Application requirements
One-page cover letter; CV, maximum 5 pages; targeted question within the cover letter.
What to highlight
Facilities maintenance, safe work, prioritising tasks, communication with school staff and working with limited supervision.
School Learning Support Officer – Fulltime – Ongoing – Muirfield High School
This role needs evidence of calm student support and practical teamwork with teachers. The application should show how you help students participate in learning, follow teacher direction and respond with patience when support needs change. Good examples will be specific enough for the panel to see your judgement, your communication style and your understanding of confidentiality and inclusion.
Application requirements
Three-page cover letter; CV, maximum 5 pages; targeted question within the cover letter; separate targeted response or selection-criteria response where requested in the portal.
What to highlight
Student learning support, inclusion, confidentiality, communication with staff and families and practical classroom judgement.
Farm Assistant – Identified – Part Time (0.6 FTE) – Ongoing – Eagle Vale High School
This is a hands-on school-based farm role. The strongest application will show practical experience with animals, crops, machinery or outdoor operations, then connect that experience to safety and planning in a school environment. The targeted question should give a clear example of how you prioritised work or managed a risk before it became a bigger problem.
Application requirements
One-page cover letter; CV, maximum 5 pages; targeted question within the cover letter.
What to highlight
Livestock, crops, machinery, hazard management, maintenance follow-through, planning and communication with school staff.
General Assistant – Full Time – Ongoing – Keira High School
This role is another facilities-focused application, but the targeted questions make the evidence task very clear. You need examples of maintaining property with minimal supervision and identifying or managing hazards. The best answers will be practical, plain and specific: what you saw, what you did, who you told and how the issue was resolved.
Application requirements
Two-page cover letter; CV, maximum 5 pages; targeted questions within the cover letter.
What to highlight
Property maintenance, hazard identification, safe equipment use, task prioritisation and communication with school staff.
How To Compare The Roles
Do not choose only by closing date. First ask whether you have current evidence for the work the role is actually assessing. A weaker application for a role that sounds attractive will usually lose to a tighter application for a role where your examples are easier to prove.
For teaching roles, your evidence should show how you support learners and deliver content. For deputy principal roles, your evidence should show leadership, influence and school-level judgement. For support and operations roles, your evidence should show safety, reliability, student focus and practical problem solving.
