How to compare project, program and PMO roles
The three NSW Public Works positions are client-side delivery jobs. They need examples that show how you planned work, managed procurement and contracts, controlled time, cost, quality and risk, and maintained useful relationships with clients, contractors and communities. The Wagga Wagga role is more senior and carries responsibility for a varied regional infrastructure portfolio and support for other project managers.
The Transport roles split into four different lanes. Project Manager Property and Metro Go Live are hands-on delivery roles. The schedule and cost practice leads are specialist project-controls positions. The PMO content roles focus on turning frameworks and standards into usable tools, while the assurance, governance and portfolio roles need senior oversight across many initiatives. What a government panel needs to trust
A project application is not strengthened by listing every methodology you know. The panel needs to see what you were accountable for, how complex the delivery environment was, which decisions you made and what changed because of your work. Name the budget, schedule, stakeholders, dependencies, risks or governance setting where that detail helps the reader understand the scale.
For the practice-lead and PMO roles, explain how your work improved delivery beyond one project. Useful evidence might include a scheduling standard that exposed risk earlier, a cost framework that improved forecasting, a governance forum that made decisions faster, or content and templates that teams actually adopted. That is the difference between saying you understand good practice and proving you can embed it.
