Paid for a résumé but still missing government interviews? Review the work you can reuse

Team 3Thirty advice cover about reviewing and reusing a paid résumé before a government application.
In this guide

Paying for a résumé and then missing out on interview can make a second purchase feel urgent. Start by checking the material you already have against the role you applied for. Some of that work may remain useful, while the gap sits in a written response or in the suitability of the roles you have chosen.

Commercial disclosure: Team 3Thirty sells government application support. This guide helps you assess an existing purchase before deciding what further work you need. It does not attribute an unsuccessful application to a named provider or assess a customer’s private transaction.

Recover the original scope

Find the quotation and the documents delivered. Check whether the purchase covered a general résumé, a résumé tailored to one vacancy or a complete application. Those services leave different amounts of work for you to do.

If you bought a résumé, the writer may have completed the agreed product even though another document needed more attention. Compare the original scope with everything the employer requested. Keep the feedback you raise with the provider tied to the work it agreed to do.

Record any revision period that remains available. A clear request to address missing information within the original scope can be a useful next step before buying additional writing.

Keep the accurate parts

Read your résumé for facts you can support and achievements you can explain. A clear career history and useful examples can carry forward to another application. Keep dates and responsibilities that remain accurate, then mark passages that need more detail.

Avoid replacing a supported achievement simply because a new writer proposes stronger language. Check whether a revision makes your own action easier to understand and whether every result has a factual basis. A new version should preserve the work you can discuss under assessment.

The appropriate format may need to change for the next vacancy. Where the advertisement sets a page limit, adapt the material to fit it while keeping relevant evidence. Our government résumé service information explains how Team 3Thirty approaches that work.

Check the application around the résumé

Put the advertisement and role description beside the complete submission. Read each requested response as its own task, then check whether the answer addresses it. The résumé may describe your career clearly while another response leaves your role in an example unexplained.

For a fictional example, a question asks how you resolved a difficult customer matter. The résumé says you handled customer escalations, while the written response describes the team’s responsibilities. More useful detail would explain the particular matter you handled, your decisions and the outcome you can substantiate.

The NSW Capability Application Tool encourages actual examples of your actions. Use that guidance to examine the evidence in your own response. Our existing guide to applications that are missing interviews explores the broader diagnosis in more detail.

Recheck the role before commissioning a rewrite

Review the essential requirements and capability levels in the role description. The NSW Government team-member guide is a useful starting point for that assessment. Your experience needs to give you enough material to address the role.

A qualification or registration gap needs a direct eligibility check. Where experience from another sector could be relevant, identify the example and how it connects with the work. Ask the role contact a specific question if the advertisement leaves an essential condition unclear.

One unsuccessful application leaves the reasons uncertain unless you receive useful feedback. Use any feedback available alongside the submitted documents. You can improve a clear gap without claiming to know why the panel made its decision.

Send specific feedback to the original provider

If revisions are still included, identify the section you want reviewed and the requirement it needs to address. Supply the missing factual detail so the provider can respond to a concrete request. Keep a copy of what you sent and the revised document.

For example, you could explain that the targeted response describes a team project without identifying your own decisions. Add what you were responsible for and the result you can verify. Ask the provider to confirm whether that revision falls within the original purchase.

Where further work falls outside the agreed scope, get the proposed price and deliverables before proceeding. The same approach applies whether you return to that provider or ask another business to help.

Decide what your next purchase needs to cover

Choose one current vacancy and list the written work that remains. You might need a role-specific response while keeping your existing résumé, or you might want someone to prepare the complete pack. Our guide to choosing application help provides a worksheet for comparing those options.

For applicants who want the complete application prepared, Team 3Thirty works from the job ad, existing career material and your real experience. Rough notes or an earlier application can provide the starting point; we ask focused questions where an example needs more detail. Our deepest recruitment experience is in NSW Government, and we also support suitable government and public-sector roles Australia-wide.

The Complete Government Application costs $497 including GST for one role. It covers the role-targeted CV and every written application document required by that vacancy, with no separate page or document fees. We deliver editable Word files with unlimited revisions within the agreed scope while the role remains open, so you can check the facts and submit work you understand.

If you contact us, send the vacancy and explain what you already have. That lets the work build on accurate material instead of treating every earlier document as something to discard.
