Team 3Thirty

Administration and executive-support professionals → NSW Government

An organised team has your work behind it. Put that work into your application.

You manage the details that help everyone else do their job: records, meetings, deadlines, enquiries and follow-up. Moving into NSW Government starts with explaining the judgement behind that support, including what you checked, prioritised and improved.

The value behind everyday support

Accuracy. Priorities. Judgement.

01 / Keep it reliable

Information colleagues can find, trust and use.

02 / Keep it moving

Competing deadlines, meeting actions and timely follow-up.

03 / Know when to escalate

A clear next step when an issue needs someone else’s authority.

Translate the work you already do

From office support to government business support.

Experience in a small business, professional practice, service team or executive office can provide relevant examples. The strongest application connects that experience to the particular agency’s systems, service needs and responsibilities without claiming government experience you do not have.

Administration and business support

Consider Administration Officer, Administrative Support Officer and Business Support Officer roles. Look for matches in records, scheduling, enquiries, routine transactions and team coordination.

Executive and meeting support

Executive Support Officer and some secretariat roles may fit experience preparing papers, coordinating diaries, following up actions and handling sensitive information. Check the level of discretion the role requires.

Check the setting

Health, school and specialist administration roles can have distinct systems, screening and knowledge requirements. Read these separately from the examples you plan to write; experience in one office does not establish every specialist requirement.

Make the invisible work visible

A list of duties can hide your strongest evidence.

‘General administration’ says too little

Name the records, requests and deadlines you handled. Explain how you checked accuracy and kept people informed when priorities changed.

Being organised becomes a claim

Give an example of competing work. What did you prioritise, what could wait and how did you prevent an important action from being missed?

Unfamiliar systems get overstated

Be precise about the CRM, finance or records systems you have used. Show how you learned a process or protected data quality without renaming your experience as a government system you have never used.

The detail we help you uncover

A busy week can contain a strong application example.

You do not need to turn routine work into a dramatic story. We ask practical questions about a real situation so the panel can see your reliability and judgement.

Priorities

What needed your attention?

Describe the deadlines, enquiries or meeting commitments arriving together. Explain how you assessed urgency and kept track of the work.

Quality

What did you check?

Show how you verified a record, transaction, document or instruction. Explain how you handled missing information and who you involved.

Useful support

What was better afterwards?

Identify a completed action, corrected record, smoother handover or useful process change. Explain the benefit without inventing a time-saving figure.

Anonymised client outcome, verified against the application and interview invitation. Individual outcomes vary; an application does not guarantee an interview.

Questions administration applicants ask

Can small-business or private-sector administration experience be relevant?

It can be, where your work demonstrates the advertised requirements. Explain the volume and complexity you handled, the checks you applied and your level of responsibility. Be clear about any government-specific knowledge or systems you would need to learn.

What if my achievements feel ordinary?

Accurate records, resolved enquiries and reliable follow-up can be useful evidence. Choose a specific situation and explain what you personally did. A result can be demonstrated without a large budget, senior title or invented percentage.

Is customer service the same as administration?

There can be overlap, but the main work matters. For an administration role, lead with coordination, records, office systems and business support. Use enquiry handling where it helps show the communication or judgement that role needs.

What do I need to send Team 3Thirty?
