Weekly Shortlist: Working in smaller NSW government agencies

Are you hearing that now is a bad time to look for work in NSW Government?

Do you feel like there are fewer roles being advertised right now, so you might as well wait until the new year?

That idea is everywhere at the moment. It is also wrong.

Right now we are sitting at the end of year peak in NSW Government recruitment. On a normal week there are usually somewhere between 2,500 and 3,000 roles live on the iWorkForNSW job board. Today there are more than 3,100 roles advertised. That is a lot of opportunity.

What happens is that many people who want to change jobs “switch off” toward the end of the year. They buy into the myth that there are fewer roles, then get swept up in end of year parties, school events, long summer evenings and planning for Christmas. Energy drops. Everyone is tired. Writing job applications is the last thing they want to think about.

Meanwhile, hiring managers across smaller NSW Government agencies still need to fill critical roles. They want people starting as early as possible in the new year, which means they are shortlisting and interviewing right now.

If you are prepared to do the work when others are checked out, you are competing in a smaller field and you are more likely to stand out. This is especially true in smaller and specialist agencies, where good candidates can move very quickly through the process.

Below is a bumper shortlist of current roles across smaller NSW Government agencies. I have included more than usual because there is simply so much hiring happening at the moment.

If you are busy at this time of year and want to get your NSW Government application sorted quickly, get me to help. You can buy Write It For Me here, our flagship application support service.
