Current NSW Government Director Roles

Director Roles, Team 3Thirty NSW Government shortlist
In this guide

Last updated: 31 August 2026

Director titles cover very different kinds of work across NSW Government. This shortlist includes hospital leadership, district operations, Aboriginal health, people strategy, conduct intake, enterprise governance and financial control.

Read the mandate behind the title. Health positions can carry clinical, registration and service responsibilities, while executive-band roles lead organisation-wide functions or operating models. The Deputy Director Aboriginal Health role uses a Health Manager classification and focuses on culturally safe practice across a local health district.

All eight roles were open when checked on 31 August 2026 and close between 7 September and 5 October. The application formats vary, so open the checklist before deciding how much preparation each vacancy needs.

What the NSW Government director market tells applicants

There were 221 NSW Government advertisements with Director in the title across the three-month comparison. Health supplied 99 of them, covering medical, nursing, operational and Aboriginal health leadership, while the rest spread across corporate, service and regulatory agencies.

A usable annual salary was available for 167 director-title roles. Eighty sat above the observed Grade 11/12 salary band and 57 sat close to it. The rest used lower salary bands or gave no reliable salary, so the title needs to be read with the award, mandate and reporting line.

Director applicants should search the function as well as the title. People strategy, conduct, governance, finance, procurement, operations and clinical leadership require different evidence, even when the position title looks similar.

Read the mandate behind the director title

Director of Medical Services, Director of Nursing and Midwifery and Executive Director Operations lead complex health services with direct responsibility for workforce, clinical delivery and organisational performance. Deputy Director Aboriginal Health combines strategy with the implementation of culturally safe practice and health priorities across a district.

The corporate executive roles have different mandates. People Strategy and Transformation covers workforce design, analytics and leadership capability. Conduct Intake and Support leads triage, risk assessment and a new operating model. Enterprise Strategy, Risk and Governance is an organisation-wide assurance role, while Financial Control and Procurement needs deep accounting, audit and government-framework expertise.

Write at the level of mandate, risk and enterprise result

A director application needs an example that shows the mandate you held and the system you influenced. Explain the organisational risk, the stakeholders whose support mattered, the choices you made and how you maintained accountability through implementation. Include evidence of the result across service quality, workforce capability, financial performance, governance or community outcome.

For a transformation example, make the starting problem concrete and show how you moved the executive group and delivery teams toward a workable model. For clinical or operational leadership, explain how you balanced service demand, professional standards, resources and staff capability while protecting the quality of care.
