Project managers often assume a government application will read like a private-sector recruitment process. It does not. The panel is looking for evidence of how you planned the work, made decisions and kept delivery under control.
There are seven current roles worth looking at this week, covering Transport, infrastructure, technology and finance. Some are senior delivery positions. Others are project-lead roles where your specialist experience still needs to translate into clear outcomes.
Check the closing date before you start. The roles close between 3 and 17 August, so confirm availability in the official advert before applying.
Why a private-sector project CV is not enough
A private-sector CV can show the size of a project. It does not always show the decisions you made when the plan changed, a stakeholder pushed back or delivery started to slip.
Government panels need to see your contribution clearly. Pick one project and explain the problem, your responsibility, the action you took and the result. Keep the focus on what you did, not what the whole team was responsible for.
That is the difference between a project list and evidence. “Led a major project” tells the panel the scale. A short example tells them how you operate.
Seven current project manager and project lead roles
This list stays close to the titles people are actually searching for. Five roles are called Project Manager or Senior Project Manager. Two use Project Lead in the title, but still ask for ownership of defined delivery work. Read the role description before deciding which examples to use.
Project Manager
This is the broadest Transport option in the list. It suits a delivery professional who can bring structure to a complex project, manage stakeholders and keep risks, decisions and milestones visible.
Senior Project Manager – Development
The development focus makes this a useful option for someone who has led complex development work and can give senior decision-makers clear advice about timing, dependencies and delivery risk.
IT Project Manager – Information Technology, Clerk Grade 9/10
This role is a strong fit for an IT project manager who can move between technical teams, business owners and senior stakeholders without losing control of scope or outcomes.
Project Manager – Temporary opportunity up to 24 months
The temporary arrangement is the main point of difference here. It suits someone who can step into an established portfolio, understand the delivery problem quickly and provide reliable control through the term.
Project Manager
This is the highest-paid exact Project Manager title in the list. It will appeal to applicants who have worked around public infrastructure, major programs or senior stakeholder environments.
Finance Strategic Projects Lead
This is not a generic finance job. It is a project-lead role for someone who can connect budgets, reporting and business improvement to practical delivery.
Energy and Debt Management and Treasury Project Lead
This is the most specialist title in the group. The finance and treasury focus means your application needs to show relevant subject-matter knowledge as well as project ownership.

Before you apply
Start with the official advert, not the title. Check the role description, required documents, targeted questions, page limits and any essential qualifications or clearances. Transport for NSW may also include screening questions in the application portal.
Then choose examples that match the work. Technology roles need evidence about systems, vendors and dependencies. Infrastructure roles need control of scope, procurement, contracts and delivery risk. Finance project leads need analysis, reporting and implementation evidence.
If you are writing the application yourself, use the free NSW Government cover letter template. If you want the documents prepared for you, request a Team 3Thirty application.
