Government Jobs in Chatswood: A Guide to Employers and Roles

Government jobs in Chatswood guide beside a lit pedestrian passage in the Chatswood dining district.
In this guide

Keeping a healthcare system running takes more than clinical staff. Someone has to manage its technology, explain changes, negotiate contracts and help people learn new systems. If that sounds like work you would enjoy, Chatswood deserves a place in your government job search. The local options include specialist technical work and the commercial, project and people functions supporting it.

From 1 July to 30 September 2026, Team 3Thirty's I Work for NSW records captured 122 ads offering a Chatswood workplace or office choice. That was 0.6% of the 18,867 NSW ads captured across the same period. These historical opportunities help show the range of work to explore; use current advertisements when deciding what to apply for.

Employers to put on your search list

Digital health was the largest part of this snapshot. eHealth NSW and the Single Digital Patient Record Implementation Authority advertised work involving systems, data, engineering, procurement and program delivery. Their titles also included communications, finance, people and culture, and training. Following both employers gives you a wider view than searching for technology jobs alone.

Ads offering a Chatswood work option
Employer or business unit Ads
eHealth NSW 80
Single Digital Patient Record Implementation Authority 25
Department of Communities and Justice 9
Teaching Service 3
Northern Sydney Local Health District 2
NSW Health Pathology 2
Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water 1

Communities and Justice provides another direction to explore, with customer service and child protection work appearing in the period. The teaching and mental health ads involved different professional pathways. A corporate background can transfer to some support functions, while a teaching or clinical vacancy may require qualifications, registration or approvals you need to establish before applying. The role description is the useful starting point for that decision.

Connect the titles with work you already know

If you enjoy finding the cause of a system problem or translating information into a decision, look beyond your current job title. Analyst, engineer, developer and digital specialist titles appeared throughout the snapshot. They describe different kinds of responsibility, from technical delivery to business analysis and specialist platform work. Familiarity with the broad field is a starting point; compare the particular systems and level of ownership with your own experience.

Ads in that title group
Related terms in job titles Ads Work to explore
Technology, systems, engineering or analysis terms 75 Technology operations, data, solution design and analysis
Procurement, contracts, commercial or asset terms 13 Purchasing, supplier relationships, contracts and commercial decisions
Project, program, portfolio or change 12 Delivery coordination, governance, change and program support
Training or teaching 9 Helping staff use systems, professional learning and school teaching

Commercial and procurement work may suit someone who can explain a purchasing decision, assess competing options or manage a supplier relationship. Project and program roles reward a different set of examples: resolving a delivery problem, coordinating stakeholders or keeping a decision moving. Think about the work you can demonstrate well, then try its related titles. The government resume-skills guide can help you explain what you did and why it mattered.

Training is worth exploring separately. A systems trainer needs to understand how people learn and how a process works in practice. School teaching follows a distinct recruitment and approval pathway, even when both types of work involve explaining complex ideas. Read the responsibilities and essential requirements before treating two training-related titles as interchangeable.

Make the office choice part of your decision

Some ads offered Chatswood alongside St Leonards, Charlestown or another office. That creates a possible local work option, but the attendance arrangement belongs to the particular vacancy. When you find a role you like, establish which office the successful applicant can use, how regularly the team attends and whether travel is part of the job. Picture that arrangement in an ordinary working week before deciding the commute suits you.

A broad location filter can hide a useful option. An ad may sit under a wider Sydney or regional label while its description names Chatswood. Search the description as well as the location selector, and check the employer's current vacancies. Keep nearby workplaces such as St Leonards on a separate list if they also suit your search; the figures here relate to an explicit Chatswood work option.

Build a shortlist you can explain

Start with two or three types of work that match your strongest evidence. For each current role, record the essential requirements, employment term, office arrangements and the examples you could use in an application. Include the salary wording in that comparison so you can distinguish base pay from a package and check whether the level suits your next move. Use that comparison to decide which roles deserve an application.

Use I Work for NSW for current state government vacancies and NSW Health recruitment for health opportunities. APS Jobs is a separate search for federal roles; council recruitment also sits outside these NSW figures. Once you select a role, follow its application instructions and use the government cover-letter examples guide for supporting advice.

Does a digital health role require clinical experience?

It depends on the role. The period included engineering, procurement and corporate support titles as well as roles connected more closely with clinical systems and services. Check the essential requirements and duties in the current advertisement. Assess the fit against your own experience and the role's essential requirements.

Are all 122 opportunities still open?

The count covers historical ads listed during July–September, including jobs that have since closed. It shows employers and work to explore. Check the official board for a current vacancy and its closing date before preparing an application.

We used Team 3Thirty's captured I Work for NSW records for 1 July to 30 September 2026. Chatswood counts when an ad offered it as a workplace or office choice. The figures count distinct ads, which can offer several vacancies or offices; historical coverage is limited to captured records. Council and APS jobs have separate listings. Title groups use related terms, including data, software, cloud and network in the technology group, and can overlap.
