You can explore several career paths in Parramatta without limiting your search to one government department. If you enjoy organising projects, there are officer and support roles to look into. Experience with finance or data opens up other searches, while health professionals can explore clinical work in Parramatta and nearby facilities. The challenge is finding the jobs that suit the work you enjoy and the life you want around it.

Between 1 July and 30 September 2026, 1,143 job ads offered Parramatta or North Parramatta as a work location. That was 6.1% of the 18,862 NSW ads in our I Work for NSW records for those months. Those opportunities give you a useful starting point, whether you are considering your first government role or looking for your next move.

Looking for vacancies today? Browse I Work for NSW and use the employer and role ideas below to shape your search. You can also explore NSW Health careers, City of Parramatta council opportunities and APS Jobs.

Parramatta gives you room to explore a change of employer while staying focused on the work you want to do. Our look at July to September found opportunities across large NSW departments and specialist employers, with roles ranging from business support to policy and clinical work. If your first search feels narrow, try a related job title or another department before deciding there is little that suits you.

NSW employers to watch for Parramatta roles

Communities and Justice and Customer Service both advertised more than 200 roles with a Parramatta work option over the three months. Education, Transport and other departments also featured in the search. Keeping several employers on your radar gives you more ways to find work that uses your experience, especially when your skills could fit more than one agency.

Employer Ads offering Parramatta
Department of Communities and Justice 218
Department of Customer Service 204
Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water 147
Department of Education 115
NSW Police Force 81
Transport for NSW 61
Western Sydney Local Health District 50
Other employers and business units 267

You could also explore the NSW Reconstruction Authority, Environment Protection Authority, NSW Trustee and Guardian, Multicultural NSW and icare. Start with the kind of work you enjoy, then see which employers have something relevant. Someone who likes investigating problems and preparing advice could find a role through an occupation search that they would have missed by following one department alone.

As you browse, picture the working week as well as the job itself. A role with a Parramatta office option could make a change of employer practical for you, while another might involve travel to other sites. The ad’s location and attendance details will help you work out how it would fit around your commute.

Find a role that suits the work you enjoy

Your current job title is only one way into a government job search. Think about the parts of your week you would like to do more of, then try titles that describe that work. Project and support roles were common in the Parramatta ads we reviewed, with opportunities in digital work and finance too.

Work to explore Ads with these words in the title
Project or program work 186
Administration, support or coordination 136
Digital, data, ICT and related work 101
Finance, accounting, debt or revenue 75
Policy 54
Health and clinical work 35

Use these as ideas for searches, then open the role description to see what you would spend your time doing. A familiar title can lead to quite different work depending on the team. The responsibilities will tell you more about whether you would enjoy the role and have experience to draw on.

Project, program and business support

If you enjoy helping a team keep work moving, look at Assistant Project Officer, Project Officer, Business Support Officer and Administration Support Officer roles. Your experience organising meetings or following up actions could be relevant, especially if you can explain how it helped colleagues deliver their work. Read how much responsibility the role carries: some focus on supporting a project, while others ask you to take ownership of part of it.

Data and finance

Consider Data Analyst, Business Analyst, Finance Officer and Finance Business Partner if you enjoy making sense of information or working through financial questions. Think about occasions when your reports helped someone make a decision, or when you improved a process that people relied on. As you browse, compare the tools and technical skills in the ad with the work you have already done and the areas you would like to develop.

Policy and health

Policy work could interest you if you like researching a problem and turning what you learn into useful advice. Assistant Policy Officer is one title to explore alongside more senior roles, depending on your experience. For health professionals, the search included nursing and other clinical work. Look at the facility as well as the employer, particularly if you are also open to nearby Westmead.

How to find roles that a Parramatta filter can miss

A search for Parramatta can miss jobs you would want to know about. Only 88 of the 1,143 ads we found carried the exact location label “Parramatta”. Many appeared under Sydney West, Greater West or Sydney City, with the Parramatta office mentioned further down the ad.

Try your occupation first on I Work for NSW, then explore Parramatta and the wider Sydney filters. Open the results that look relevant and search the page for “Parramatta”. Read the sentence around it to see whether it is an office you could work from or somewhere the role visits.

  1. Try related titles. If you are a project coordinator, include assistant project officer and project support officer in your search.
  2. Broaden the location. Explore Sydney West and Greater West alongside Parramatta, especially for roles offering a choice of offices.
  3. Picture the commute. Find out where you would normally work and how often you would need to attend.
  4. Save the details. Keep the ad and role description with the closing date so you can return to a promising role when you have time to read it properly.

If the office would decide whether you apply, ask the contact person before you spend time on the documents. For example: “Can the successful applicant choose Parramatta as their normal office, and how often would they need to attend?” You can then judge the opportunity against the working week you want.

Decide whether the role is a good next move

As you read an ad, imagine the work you would own. Would you enjoy advising people or managing a team? Compare the responsibilities with work you have done well, then look at the parts that would stretch you. This can help you choose a level where you have something useful to offer and room to grow.

Salary and employment terms matter when you are weighing up a move. Check the advertised range and whether superannuation is included or listed separately. If you are considering a temporary role, think about how its end date fits your plans. An ongoing position or a talent pool will raise different questions, so read what the employer is offering and ask about anything that would affect your decision.

I Work for NSW’s recruitment guide explains the process and how talent pools can lead to similar opportunities. Before you commit to an application, check any qualifications or work-rights requirements in the ad. That leaves you free to spend your preparation time on roles you could accept.

Explore council, federal and nearby health opportunities

Your Parramatta search can extend beyond NSW departments. City of Parramatta’s careers page links to council vacancies and job alerts. Its early-career information is also useful if you are exploring a pathway into local government. Read the application instructions for the role you choose, as the documents can differ from those requested by a NSW department.

For federal government work, explore APS Jobs by occupation or agency, then look at the available offices. A job advertised in Sydney could be worth investigating if it interests you, but you will want to know the usual workplace before judging the commute.

Health professionals can broaden their options through NSW Health careers. Westmead and other nearby facilities could suit you if they fall within your travel range. Keeping a few nearby locations in your search can help you find more opportunities while still being clear about where you want to work.

Build a shortlist you want to pursue

Save a role when you can see something in it that interests you and a connection to your experience. Write a short note about why it appeals to you, then identify work you could discuss in an application or interview. As you compare the options, include the office and employment terms so you can see which jobs fit your plans.

What to consider A useful note to keep
The work What appeals to you and where your experience fits
The workplace Normal office, attendance and travel
Requirements Qualifications or other conditions you need to meet
The application Documents and questions to prepare
The deadline Closing date and time to set aside

Return to your shortlist a couple of times a week while you are looking. You may find that one role becomes more appealing after reading the description, while another asks for work you would prefer to move away from. If the list stays short, try a related title or an office nearby that you could comfortably reach.

Our Sydney government jobs guide can help you explore a wider area when you are open to other locations.

Show how your experience fits the job

Once a role catches your interest, read the ad alongside its role description. Make a note of the documents and questions the employer asks for, including any page or word limits. The official before-you-apply checklist can help you work through the preparation.

Choose examples that let the reader understand what you did and why it mattered. Someone applying for project support could describe how they kept track of outstanding actions and helped the project lead spot delays early. Explain your own contribution using the facts of your work, with enough context to show the size of the task and what happened afterwards.

If the role lists focus capabilities, the NSW Capability Application Tool can help you understand what the employer is looking for. You can draw on experience from another sector when it connects to the work in the role. The application is your chance to make that connection clear to someone who has never worked with you.

Our NSW public sector recruitment guide explains the wider process. If you would like help exploring roles that fit your experience, you can use the Government Job Matching Report. When you have chosen an open role, request a Complete Government Application for help preparing the written documents.

Questions about government jobs in Parramatta

Can I apply without previous government experience?

Your experience outside government can be useful when it connects to the role. Look for responsibilities you recognise, then think of examples where you handled similar work. Read the individual ad’s requirements and use your application to explain how your experience would help you in this team.

Where should I look for an early-career role?

Try titles such as Assistant Project Officer and Administration Support Officer alongside graduate and trainee opportunities. Read the experience requirements to see where you could make a start, as the same title can ask for different levels of experience. City of Parramatta’s early-career information is another place to explore possible pathways.

Can I find a hybrid role based in Parramatta?

Look for the work arrangements in each ad, then ask the contact person if you need more detail. Find out whether Parramatta can be your normal office and how the team works across office and home days. That will help you judge whether the arrangement suits your commute and other commitments.

Where can I see jobs that are open now?

Use I Work for NSW for NSW government vacancies, with the separate council and APS searches linked above. The figures in this guide cover July to September 2026, so some of those opportunities have closed. As you find a role that interests you, check its closing date and save the current application instructions.

Where the figures come from

We used Team 3Thirty’s I Work for NSW records for 1 July to 30 September 2026, including ads listed at any point during those months and jobs that have since closed. Parramatta and North Parramatta count when the ad offered either as a workplace. The figures count ads, which can offer several vacancies or a choice of offices; council, APS and private-sector boards have their own listings. The role groups use words in job titles and can overlap.
