If you want government work in Tamworth, begin with the kind of day you want to have. Caring for patients, coordinating a service, supporting a project and teaching all lead towards different searches. Health had the largest employer presence in our advertising records, with justice, transport and education offering other directions. Your experience will help you decide which of those paths deserves a closer look.
From 1 July to 30 September 2026, Team 3Thirty's I Work for NSW records captured 262 ads offering a Tamworth work option. That was 1.4% of the 18,867 NSW ads captured across the same period. The historical opportunities include jobs that have since closed. Use the employers and types of work to guide a current vacancy search.
Follow employers with a local work option
Hunter New England Local Health District accounted for the largest total. Communities and Justice, Transport for NSW, TAFE NSW and the Rural Fire Service also advertised work options in Tamworth. A search across those employers can reveal different uses for your experience, including service delivery, specialist practice, administration and coordination.
| Employer or business unit | Ads |
|---|---|
| Hunter New England Local Health District | 156 |
| Department of Communities and Justice | 22 |
| Transport for NSW | 13 |
| TAFE NSW | 8 |
| NSW Rural Fire Service | 8 |
| Department of Education | 7 |
| Justice Health and Forensic Mental Health Network | 5 |
For a health search, consider whether you want clinical work or a function supporting the service. The current role description will establish the difference and the requirements. TAFE and education searches also need attention to the actual function: teaching, specialist support and administration use different evidence. An employer's name will not establish eligibility by itself.
Narrow the search by the work in the title
Nursing and medical training titles were prominent in the snapshot. Administration and support, allied health, project work and legal or casework titles offer other useful search terms. Start with terms connected to work you have done, then compare responsibility and requirements in the actual ads.
| Words appearing in job titles | Ads |
|---|---|
| Nurse, nursing, midwife or midwifery | 39 |
| Trainee, fellow, intern or resident medical | 31 |
| Administration, support or service officer | 21 |
| Psychology and allied health titles | 16 |
| Legal, solicitor, court or casework | 16 |
| Project, program or portfolio | 15 |
Someone with experience handling difficult enquiries might explore client-service or administration work. Someone who has coordinated deadlines, tracked risks and kept a team informed might explore project support. Those are starting points for comparison. A specialist qualification or an essential requirement still needs to be met, and the training-title group includes medical pathways.
Choose one example that shows the work you want to carry forward. Explain the situation, your responsibility, the action you took and what happened. The government resume-skills guide can help you make that evidence specific enough to compare against a role description.
Separate Tamworth from the wider North West
A North West or New England location filter can cover several towns and facilities. Hunter New England also operates across a large area, so its name does not establish a Tamworth workplace. Read where the position is based and whether Tamworth is an available office or a normal part of the work rotation. A mention in a service-area description is not the same arrangement.
Nearby towns and regional travel may suit you, but consider them deliberately. Compare ordinary attendance, roster and travel expectations with the working week you can manage. If an ad offers several offices, confirm that the local choice is available for the role. Treat any hybrid arrangement as a role-specific question.
Choose a small number of roles to prepare for
Use I Work for NSW and NSW Health recruitment for current state vacancies. Council and APS Jobs searches can add other employers; they are outside this historical count. Search a few related titles and check the workplace before saving a role.
Compare the shortlisted roles by essential requirements, salary wording, employment term and application documents. Then decide which one you can support with the clearest evidence. If a role requires a qualification or responsibility you have not established, keep that gap visible and resolve it before making an unsupported claim. Use the government cover-letter examples guide to help structure an application that follows the selected ad's instructions.
Does every Hunter New England role count as Tamworth work?
No. These figures require a supported Tamworth workplace, normal work rotation or local office option. Wider service-area references are excluded.
Are all 262 ads still open?
The period includes closed ads, talent pools and advertisements with several locations. Check current official listings for the vacancy you want to pursue.

We used Team 3Thirty's captured I Work for NSW records for 1 July to 30 September 2026. Tamworth counts when an ad offered a normal workplace, work rotation or office option in the city. The figures count distinct ads, which can offer several vacancies or offices; historical coverage is limited to captured records. Council, APS and other recruitment systems are outside these figures. Role groups use words in titles and can overlap.
