Applying for New Graduate Rotational Physiotherapist? Selection Criteria Checklist

New Graduate Rotational Physiotherapist NSW Government job application checklist
In this guide

Introduction

The Lower Hunter Physiotherapy Department is filling two 2027 graduate positions across Maitland and Cessnock hospitals. The twelve-month program rotates through acute, subacute and outpatient work, which gives applicants a broad clinical setting to address.

This guide explains how to apply for New Graduate Rotational Physiotherapist and how to organise the selection-criteria responses. The application asks for a resume and examples against the criteria displayed in the online process.

Placement examples can work well when they show your reasoning rather than simply naming the ward. Describe what you assessed, how you recognised your limits and how you involved the patient, supervisor or multidisciplinary team in the next step.

Eligibility is central to this application. Make your expected degree completion and AHPRA registration timing clear before the panel reaches the clinical evidence.

What to highlight in your application

The panel needs enough detail to assess what you personally did, why you chose that approach and what followed. The areas below are the strongest evidence priorities for this role.

Evidence area How to demonstrate it
Clinical reasoning in an acute or subacute setting Use a placement example where assessment findings changed the treatment plan or required escalation. Explain the information you gathered and why the chosen action was safe for the patient.
Working within a multidisciplinary team Describe the part you played in a handover, discharge plan or shared treatment goal. Make the communication and your response to another clinician’s input visible.
Patient and family engagement Choose a situation where a patient’s needs, preferences or understanding affected the plan. Show how you adjusted your communication and checked that the person could participate in the next step.
Priorities and professional limits Explain a busy clinical period where you had to triage tasks or seek supervision. The panel should see that you recognised the boundary of your competence and acted early.

Example application structure

Treat each selection criterion as a separate assessment task. Use a different example where possible so the panel sees a wider range of clinical judgement and teamwork.

  1. Repeat the criterion as a heading and answer its full meaning.
  2. Set the clinical context briefly, including the patient need and your level of responsibility.
  3. Explain the assessment, reasoning and communication you personally completed.
  4. Show where you involved a supervisor or another discipline and why.
  5. End with the patient, service or learning result and connect it to graduate rotational work.

What the panel will want to see in your examples

  • Safe clinical judgement at graduate level.
  • A realistic understanding of supervision and scope.
  • Patient-centred communication that changed what you did.
  • Prioritisation across competing clinical demands.

Before you submit

Check the position description for any additional essential requirements and selection criteria. Confirm your degree and registration timeline are accurate.

Read each response beside its criterion and remove details that do not help the panel assess that requirement.
