A senior government move does not have to begin with a step down. These eight vacancies pay more than $150,000 and none of the advertisements explicitly makes previous government employment essential. What they do require is specialist depth, evidence at scale and the judgement to work in a publicly accountable environment.
The shortlist stretches from data engineering and enterprise testing to emergency-service communications, major infrastructure and employee relations. The two highest-paid roles cover responsible AI delivery and portfolio cost management.
These are not entry-level opportunities. They suit experienced private-sector and not-for-profit professionals who can match the scale, risk and stakeholder complexity of the work. Applications close between 16 and 19 August 2026.

Read “No Government Experience Required” Carefully
It means the advertisements do not state that previous government or public-sector employment is mandatory. It does not remove the specialist requirements. Your application still needs to show that your experience can carry across to public accountability, regulated decisions, community impact and system-wide delivery.
Compare scale rather than sector labels. A senior example from a bank, hospital group, consultancy, infrastructure business, university, utility, technology company or national employer can be highly relevant when it involves similar complexity, stakeholders and risk.
Translate Your Experience Without Diluting It
Keep the technical depth that makes you credible, then make the governance and consequence easy for a mixed panel to assess. For example, do not stop at saying you led an enterprise rollout. Explain the approval path, the operational risk you controlled, the people affected and how you knew the change was safe and ready.
- Replace industry shorthand: explain the decision and impact in plain language.
- Show governance: name approvals, risk controls, standards and accountability.
- Explain public value: connect the outcome to safe services, trust, value for money or reliable delivery.
- Keep specialist depth: public-service framing should support the technical evidence, not replace it.
Current NSW Government Roles Paying More Than $150,000
2 x Senior Application Developer
NSW Police is recruiting two senior specialists across data engineering and business intelligence. The technical landscape includes Python, SQL, Power BI, ETL, warehouses and data lakes, but the differentiator will be how well you connect that work to reliable operational decisions. Use a production example with measurable scale and explain the architecture to a non-technical panel. Police-check, security-clearance and eligibility conditions apply.
Application requirements
Cover letter, maximum two pages, and current resume.
What to highlight
Production-scale delivery, data architecture, ETL reliability, business requirements, non-technical communication and measurable outcomes.
Senior Manager Health, Safety and Security
This is enterprise safety leadership across a dispersed health district, not a single-site compliance role. The successful manager will need to shape culture, negotiate with senior stakeholders and make defensible risk decisions across very different operating environments. Experience from infrastructure, utilities, logistics or another complex multi-site employer can transfer well when it shows measurable improvement and strong command of WHS law.
Application requirements
Individual responses to the selection criteria.
What to highlight
Safety-culture maturity, enterprise frameworks, WHS law, executive influence, multi-site change and measurable risk improvement.
Senior Manager Media and Communications
Media leadership at the NSW SES is closely tied to public trust during fast-moving operational events. The role leads specialist staff and sets the frameworks that keep messages accurate across executives, volunteers, media outlets and communities. Senior corporate, emergency or infrastructure communicators should choose examples where message governance held under pressure and confidence was protected.
Application requirements
One-page cover letter; two targeted responses, maximum one page each; resume, maximum four pages.
What to highlight
Media leadership, crisis communication, strategic frameworks, team management, government and media stakeholders, and public trust.
ERP Test Lead
An Oracle ERP release only works when finance, procurement, projects and integrations work together. eHealth NSW needs a test leader who can design that end-to-end assurance, govern defects and bring business owners to a confident release decision. Large private-sector implementations are directly relevant. Make the application specific about the environment, your authority and what happened at go-live.
Application requirements
Cover letter and up-to-date resume, maximum five pages.
What to highlight
Oracle ERP, end-to-end testing, integrations, defect governance, business readiness and release outcomes.
Project Manager, Infrastructure NSW
Major infrastructure delivery means balancing consultants, contractors, business-case controls and the community outcome the investment is meant to create. Experienced construction, property, engineering and client-side project managers can make a direct case for this role. Both application questions must fit inside the two-page cover letter, so centre the story on your authority, the difficult delivery choice and the value you protected.
Application requirements
Current resume and cover letter, maximum two pages, answering two application questions.
What to highlight
Major-project scope, personal authority, commercial partners, delivery strategy, community benefit and the unique value you bring.
Senior Manager, AI and Operational Systems Delivery
Here the challenge is not simply deploying AI. It is delivering useful automation across clinical, operational, technical and executive groups while scope shifts and the consequences of a poor decision remain high. Senior digital leaders from regulated environments should show how privacy, ethics and human oversight shaped the delivery. Two responses under 250 words test both pace and responsible governance.
Application requirements
Resume, maximum three pages; cover letter, maximum two pages; two targeted responses, maximum 250 words each.
What to highlight
Shifting scope, risk, negotiation, AI-assisted workflows, privacy, ethics, human oversight and system-wide results.
Manager, Employee Relations
Tribunals, unions, employment policy, sensitive cases and executive advice all meet in this district-wide leadership role. Candidates from large employers, universities, health groups or other regulated organisations can transfer strongly when they show credible legal judgement and practical influence. The application must address the essential requirements and selection criteria, so map each claim to a specific case, policy change or capability result.
Application requirements
Individual responses to the essential requirements and selection criteria.
What to highlight
Tribunals, union relationships, employment law, policy, strategic caseloads, executive briefs and HR capability.
Program Manager, Cost Management Advisory
Health Infrastructure wants stronger estimates, cashflow forecasts and cost reporting across a major capital portfolio. Senior cost managers and commercial advisers from construction, consulting, property or infrastructure can transfer directly if they show the confidence to challenge assumptions independently. The two questions should connect that challenge to a portfolio-wide improvement, not just a better spreadsheet.
Application requirements
Resume, maximum three pages; cover letter, maximum two pages; responses to two targeted questions.
What to highlight
Major-project estimates, commercial challenge, forecasts, executive advice, cost standards, portfolio reporting and measurable confidence improvements.
